Lawyers are not amused by feisty legal publisher
Article Abstract:
Nolo Press' do-it-yourself legal guides, particularly the company's Living Trust Maker guidebook and software, were the subject of an investigation by a group of Texas lawyers, who investigate and stamp out what is regarded as the unauthorized practice of law. The company, which is based in Berkeley, CA, publishes do-it-yourself guidebooks on patents, adoptions, tenant rights, bankruptcy and wills. Nolo's "Willmaker," which is a guidebook with software, remains as the top-selling item of the company with over 570,000 copies in print.

Rogue Lawyers
Article Abstract:
An editorial commentary on the controversial Legal Services Corp. is presented. The Legal Services Corp. is an independent federal body whose critics charge it with using federal funds to lobby for social change, rather than providing legal services for the poor. Legal Services enjoys a generous federal budget, in spite of the alleged illegality of some of its activities. Several government agencies are conducting investigations of this controversial organization.
