Article Abstract:
Steel industry executives are watching the Justice Department's antitrust policy affecting mergers. The Justice Department permitted the steel merger that made LTV Steel. Originally the merger between LTV Corporation and Republic Steel Corporation was rejected by the Department. The steel companies sold off two Republic plants that, according to the government, made the market share level acceptable for a merger. The Justice Department also acted to prevent price collusion by LTV Steel.
