Article Abstract:
While marketing information system and its acronym MKIS sound like something which is high tech and which the computer does, it is actually a process for helping to determine market information needs. Small companies, as well as large corporations, can use MKIS, and the process can be as simple or complex as needed. The MKIS process is actually a series of steps, which are: 1) define the business problem, 2) ask the right questions, 3) determine what data will answer the questions, 4) obtain the data and 5) analyze the data to find a solution to the problem. An example of how a small company which writes business and computer information books went through the MKIS process described above, to solve a problem concerning the future direction that their market was taking, is included.
