Mentor makes a hostile bid for Quicken
Article Abstract:
Mentor Graphics Corporation made an unsolicited tender offer for Quickturn Design Systems Inc. Mentor's offer of $12.125 a share in cash represents a 50 percent premium to Quickturn's closing price of $8 on Tuesday August 11, 1998. Mentor already owns 3 percent of Quickturn. Mentor would pay $209 million for the remaining 97 percent of Quickturn. The deal would eleminate a patent battle between the two companies. The merger would create management challenges, because the business models for software and hardware are different.
