Mexico: central bank intervenes as peso drops

The Bank of Mexico reacted to the release of information that described Mexico's economy as still in a poor state by purchasing pesos to keep the currency stable. The purchases were made on Nov 9, 1995, and Nov 14, 1995. The government said the economic fears were unfounded.

Fleet to buy Shawmut in bank merger

Fleet Financial Group Inc announced on Feb 21, 1995, that it will purchase Shawmut National Corp for $3.4 billion in a stock-swap deal. The acquisition will make Fleet the ninth-largest bank holding firm in the US, with assets of $81 billion.

Royal Bank buys Royal Trustco
