Modern Office Computer Test: Archives PC
Article Abstract:
In Australia the Archives PC (Pied Piper in the United States) can be purchased without a monitor and was tested successfully with a Sanyo screen. The Archives PC, weighing six kilograms, runs on a Z-80A processor with a single disk drive with 800K capacity. The package, priced at $2,394 (monitor $240), includes several programs in the Perfect series. Perfect Filer has a prestructured format which saves the user some work. A few problems were encountered with the manual and instructions, since Perfect Filer was written for two disk drives. Several disks should be preformatted. Different data bases must be stored on separate disks. A second disk drive is worth considering.

Modern Office Computer Test - Access Micro
Article Abstract:
The Access Micro, a compact box with handle containing a detachable keyboard, two disk drives, an excellent eighty character per second dot matrix printer and acoustic coupler, is too heavy for easy portability and has an amber screen too small to be read easily. The Perfect software system is user friendly with good manuals and lesson disks. Perfect Writer word processor creates text files that can be used by Perfect Files' mailing application and Perfect Calc can handle several files. The package also includes Perfect Speller, MBasic, FancyFont, and CPM which run on the Z80A processor with 64K memory. A picture of the microprocessor is included.

Modern Office Computer Test: Olivetti M20
Article Abstract:
The 16-Bit Olivetti M-20 microprocessor uses both the Z-8000 and Intel 8086 processors. The manual for the PCOS operating system is good for starting procedures. MSDOS is an alternate operating system that can be used with the 8086. CP M programs can be used by converting the Z-80 code with the Trans-816 program. Functions are produced by combinations of keys. The Oligen program generator, at $500 a module, is considered very good. The system with two 320K bytes disk drives and dot matrix printer costs $6920 (Australia).
