Growth dynamics of the World-Wide Web

Article Abstract:

A new study of the World Wide Web finds that, despite its seemingly arbitrary growth, a universal power law governs the distribution of web pages among sites. This universal distribution, whereby many sites have very few pages and few sites have many thousands of pages, can be explained using a simple stochastic dynamic growth model. The existence of such a law has practical consequences and allows the number of sites of any arbitrary size to be estimated.
