Moslem rebels attack southern town
Article Abstract:
Members of the Abu Sayyaf group attacked the town on Ipil, on the island of Mindanao, in hopes of freeing the founder's son from a local jail. More than 50 people died during the attack, and federal troops were called in to help the town. Many people on Mindanao are practicing Roman Catholics.

Egyptian Moslem extremists shot at a tour bus near Asyut, Egypt, killing one tourist from the UK and injuring two others. Poverty and Egypt's refusal to legalize the majority of Islamic political parties have led to increased violence among Islamic militants.

Government bars dissident Moslem group
Article Abstract:
Saudi Arabia outlawed the Committee for the Defense of Legitimate Rights on May 13, 1993, and dismissed four of the founders of the group from their government positions. The Committee was led by Abdullah al-Masari, an Islamic legal scholar.
