NBC storms marketing front to ensure 'Weakest Link' isn't just that; with humvees, graffiti, network drills game show's motto into psyche of TV viewers
Article Abstract:
Britain's hit show, "The Weakest Link," is being promoted in the U.S. in the hopes of making it as successful as "Who Wants to be a Millionaire." NBC went to all lengths to see to it that that might happen, using even sidewalk graffiti and "plants" in the crowds outside "Total Request Live." The opening week, with three shows instead of one, seems to have clinched the marketing numbers NBC wanted. Thirteen more weeks were ordered. So far, it is not the weakest link. "The host from hell," Anne Robinson is asked for autographs in spite of her contrived rudeness.

TV's big four get early start on promoting the new season
Article Abstract:

Start generating a buzz as early as 6 months before a season starts and focus the promotion toward single programs, not the networks themselves.
