Northern Telecom plays down phone roots, embraces 'I Word'

Telephone equipment giant, Northern Telecom launched a $90 million ad campaign in TV and print that promotes its Internet capabilities. In the new ads it is using its new name, Nortel Networks, and is willingly taking on competitor Cisco Systems when it says, "...changing the way businesses communicate...with the true power of the Internet." To assist in making an impression as an Internet company and not just a telephone equipment company, it is using a new tagline: "How the world shares ideas."
