NCR Announces Grant to University of Arizona
Article Abstract:
NCR has announced that it is donating two million dollars worth of computer equipment and cash grants to the University of Arizona. The grant is to be used to implement a Management Information Systems (MIS) program within the College of Business and Public Administration. The donated equipment includes 200 NCR DM-V personal computers, and Tower 1632 and NCR 9300 multiuser general purpose systems. The systems will be operational by Spring 1984 and will serve 5000 students. The two institutions are also forming a research and development partnership. Under the agreement, Arizona's MIS department will serve as a test center for various hardware and software products.

Cincom Announces NCR Micro Link Software
Article Abstract:
Cincom System, Inc. of Cincinnati, Ohio has announced the Personal Computer Support System (PCSS), which links NCR mainframe computers to microcomputers. It will work with virtually any Intel 808X based PC running under MS-DOS or CP-M operating systems. A major feature of the software includes terminal emulation allowing micros to perform like page mode terminals attached to the mainframe. Sending and receiving messages across a serial communication link to the mainframe, downline loading mainframe text files and calling the TOTAL data base management system via a DATBAS call are all possible using additional software.

Azurdata Announces Shelf Price Audit System with POS Interface
Article Abstract:
Azurdata Inc.'s Shelf Price Audit System, which includes a portable, programmable terminal with up to 256K RAM, allows a grocery store to make on-the-spot shelf or retail price checks. In addition, the terminal can be connected to a printer to produce error reports and to a modem for uploading to the host computer. The system will reportedly pay for itself in two to six months.
