Netscape releases upgrade of its Internet software

Netscape Communications Corp. introduced a major upgrade of its Internet software on July 16, 1998. The software features links to Netscape's World Wide Web site and other components that are intended to outdo the company's rival, Microsoft Corp. Netscape Communicator 4.5 simplifies the tracking down of other sites on the Internet. Netscape is releasing a test version of the software, which can be downloaded without charge from its website.

IBM to unveil Aptiva PC aimed at schoolchildren

International Business Machines Corp. (IBM) will start sales of a Aptiva personal computer that is targeted at schoolchildren. The PC will have a cost of $799. The sale of the Aptiva PC shows that IBM is getting ready for the highly-competitive back-to-school shopping season. IBM will introduce the entry-level PC together with a series of software and hardware products in July 1998.
