'New Yorker' writer loses libel case

A San Francisco, CA, court found Malcolm guilty of defaming Masson in a 1983 New Yorker magazine article she wrote about the famed psychoanalyst. The jury concluded that two passages were libelous, but they could not agree on damages. The New Yorker was exonerated of responsibility.

Major sues over 'affair' story

Major's lawyers on Jan 28, 1993, issued writs for libel against the 'Scallywag' and the 'New Statesman & Society' magazines for publishing stories of rumors about an alleged romantic affair between Major and Clare Latimer. Both Major and Latimer deny any relationship ever existed.

Former Labour chief files libel suit
Article Abstract:
Foot filed a libel suit against Rupert Murdoch and two of his newspapers that printed allegations that Foot was an agent-of-influence for the Soviet Union in the 1960s. The News of the World printed an apology, but the Sunday Times edited Foot's response to the story.
