Travel office firings embarrass White House

Pres Bill Clinton was accused of favoritism after the dismissal of seven members of the White House travel office and the partial reinstatement of five of the employees. Clinton's friends and relatives who wanted a share of the travel business allegedly had requested the dismissals.

Clinton drops Guinier as choice for civil rights post

Pres Bill Clinton withdrew the name of Lani Guinier from consideration for a position in the Justice Dept's civil-rights division on Jun 3, 1993. Clinton stated that Guinier's opinions on voting rights and racial issues differed from his own.

Miami prosecutor named attorney general

Pres Clinton nominated Florida state attorney Janet Reno on Feb 11, 1993, to be US attorney general. Reno has been the state prosecutor for Dade County, FL, since 1978. The Florida Democrat has won reelection to the position fives times.
