North Korea withdraws from Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty

North Korea announced its withdrawal from the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty on Mar 12, 1993, so that it could defend 'its supreme interest.' The withdrawal was partly a response to the actions of the International Atomic Energy Agency, which planned to inspect nuclear sites.

UN Sec Gen Boutros Boutros-Ghali issued a report that called for better enforcement of countries that volunteer forces, then do not provide them when they are needed. Boutros-Ghali proposed the use of sanctions to better encourage the participation of countries.
