OAS, U.S. warn on tank deployment

The Peruvian army showed its support for General Nicolas de Bari Hermoza, who allegedly was involved in 10 killings, by deploying tanks in Lima, Peru, on Apr 22, 1993. The US and the OAS stated that aid to Peru would be conditional on the promotion of democracy and human rights.

Economy minister resigns

Carlos Bolona Behr resigned as minister of economy and finance for Peru. Behr was the second cabinet member of Pres Alberto K. Fujimori to resign since Fujimori dissolved the National Congress, suspended parts of the constitution and censored the press on Apr 5, 1992.
