Ontario passes omnibus budget bill

The Ontario legislature passed the Savings and Restructuring Act, also known as Bill 26, on Jan 29, 1996. The bill gives Premier Mike Harris greater authority to make budgetary changes. Demonstrators protested against the bill and cuts to the province's health and welfare system.

Ontario details more budget cuts
Article Abstract:
Ontario plans to eliminate 1,400 public service jobs and reduce spending by $560 million in an effort to reduce the province's budget deficit. The new cuts were announced on Sep 28, 1995, and are part of Premier Mike Harris's goal to balance the budget by 2001.

Ontario tackles budgetary imbalances

The Ontario government introduced a budget of $42 billion for FY 1993-94 on May 19, 1993. Other provisions of the budget included a corporate minimum tax, license fees and the expansion of the sales tax.
