Opposition party wins general elections
Article Abstract:
Banharn Silpa-archa was appointed the new premier of Thailand after his party Chart Thai won 92 seats in the Jul 2, 1995, parliamentary elections. The Democrat Party led by former Premier Chuan Leekpai won 86 seats. Banharn plans to form a seven-party coalition government.

Liberal - National coalition wins Australian elections

The Liberal Party - Natl Party coalition defeated the ruling Australian Labor Party in national elections on Mar 2, 1996. Coalition leader John Howard is expected to replace Paul Keating as prime minister of Australia.
