Orderbook models for priority management: a taxonomy of data structures
Article Abstract:
Standard operating procedures in many Operations Management (OM) situations can be described as priority management, which is defined as a rapid response orientation to the unpredictable demands of volatile markets and subsequent production requirements. This paper examines the preconditions of priority management by looking at its components of variety, variation and volume. These factors often preclude more formalized planning and control systems. The orderbook model as an effective, but non-traditional, tool for order processing is presented and discussed.
