Pension benefits effects on capital market equilibrium, firm value, and financing decisions

Article Abstract:

The effects of pension benefits on capital market equilibrium, firm value andfinancial decisions are analyzed using a static utility-maximization model. Results indicate that pension benefits significantly influence the movement of stock prices even as firm value is affected by the changes in pension benefits through their impacts on the capital market. An extension of the model suggeststhat an optimal control approach can be used to assess the effects of pension benefits on optimal investment and financing decisions. Other areas for empirical research are also outlined, with particular reference to social security benefits.

The conceptual model hypothesizes that the children's active social power, children's passive social power, preference intensity and decision history helps in explaining the variations observed in children's influence.
