Precision instrument industry
Article Abstract:
Shipments in the precision instrument industry in the first six months of 1997 have been better than previous years, increasing by 6.5% in Jun 1997, compared to 4.2% in Jun 1996. Improvements in the Pacific Rim, European, and Latin economies should offset any possible US downturn in late 1997, and the growth prospects for the early 21st Century are good, as well. There are several good opportunities in these stocks in 1997-98 and through 2000-2002.

Beveages (alcoholic) industry
Article Abstract:
Profit margins for the beer industry in the US are expected to increase during 1998 after the pricing war in 1997 through lower discounts and other measures to increase revenue. Distillers are expected to have good sales in coming years, especially in the global markets, and the Grand Met-Guiness merger is a long-term positive asset, also. The industry will be flat in 1998, but several of these stocks will perform well through 2000-2002.

Medical supplies industry
Article Abstract:
Medical supply stocks are not expected to do well in 1997 because of the proposed Medicare budget and some collaborations among companies. Those stocks that are expected to do well can be invested in to diversify a portfolio that is strong in favorable investment stocks. Some medical supply stocks will not increase their earnings in 1997 and 1998 because of the value of the US dollar against foreign currencies.
