President vetoes State Department bill
Article Abstract:
Clinton vetoed a bill that would have authorized $13 billion to the State Dept. The bill would have allied the US to Taiwan, creating tense relations with China, and would have required the elimination of a major agency. Clinton said the bill would limit his power and create security problems.

Clinton vetoes 1995 spending cuts

Pres Clinton exercised his veto power for the first time when he vetoed a spending bill on Jun 7, 1995. The bill would have reduced spending by $16.4 billion in FY 1995. Clinton vetoed the bill because it reduced education and job-training programs.
