Prospects for labor market reform in Mexico

Issues concerning labor market reform that may take place under the administration of Mexican President Vicente Fox are examined. Topics include present provisions regarding wages, benefits and unions; the relative ease in providing reform as it relates to government relations with labor unions; and the difficulties that will arise as corporations seek to establish more flexibility in managing labor.

Article Abstract:
Issues concerning Mexican Vicente Fox's commitment to environmental protection are examined. Topics include the support the Mexican Ecologist Green Party gave to Fox during his campaign, improvement of Mexico's environmental laws during the 1990s, difficulties with enforcing laws, and the tension between the need to create new jobs and protect the environment.
