Overseas research and development laboratories are central to the product innovation efforts of multinational business enterprises. The laboratory networks, which enhance the short- and long-term competitiveness of the multinationals, develop commercial uses of new products for specific regional markets. The networks also reflect the technological capabilities of host countries and promote the technological development of multinational firms.
