R&D=Rx for Growth
Article Abstract:
Warner-Lambert Co. is now trying to become known as a health care company. The company has taken steps in this direction by acquiring IMED, a maker of intravenous equipment which is expected to grow rapidly. At the same time Warner-Lambert sold its specialty baked goods unit, Entemann's Incorporated, which confused the company's image. Most important of all was Warner-Lambert's purchase of Parke-Davis, an old-line ethical drug company. Once the FTC cleared the purchase in 1978, Warner-Lambert was able to fully develop Parke-Davis' potential. Several revolutionary new drug products are scheduled for release by Warner-Lambert in 1984, and they were all developed in the laboratories of the former Parke-Davis.
