Article Abstract:

Sony commands 17.4% of the market as of 12/13/98, and Warner Music is a very close second with 17.3%. R&B is the far and away favorite genre with sales of 146.4 million albums. Rap has gained respect in recent years and sold 73.7 million albums to country's 64.5 million.
