Refugees return from Mexico
Article Abstract:
Over 2,400 refugees returned to Guatemala from Mexico on Jan 20, 1993. The Mexican government, the Guatemalan government, the United Nations High Commissioner for refugees and a refugee commission made the return possible when they entered into an agreement in Oct 1992.

Ramiro de Leon Carpio became president of Guatemala on Jun 6, 1993, succeeding former Pres Jorge Serrano Elias, who was forced out of office. Gustavo Espina Salguero declared himself president, but he did not obtain the needed quorum.
