Removing the paradox of conflict from group decisions
Article Abstract:
Conflict can only give rise to good group decisions if the disagreement reveals a variety of decision solutions. However, when unchecked, conflict can result in ill feelings within the group. In a study of the paradox of conflict, it was shown that conflict has two faces, namely, cognitive and affective conflicts. The former are the differences in perspectives and judgments while the latter tends to be emotional and is considered bad or dysfunctional. The study concluded that it is only the cognitive side of conflict that accounts for good management decisions.
