SEABED MINING BILL HAS THREE MORE HURDLES
Article Abstract:
THE QUESTION OF MINING AND PROFIT RIGHTS IN THE DEEP SEABED HAS REMAINED UNSETTLED SINCE THE MID-1960S. A BILL CURRENTLY MOVING THROUGH CONGRESS WOULD ALLOW COMPANIES ALREADY OPERATING EXPERIMENTALLY TO PROCEED TO MINE COPPER, COBALT, IRON, MANGANESE, NICKEL, AND OTHER ORES AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PACIFIC OCEAN. THE BILL IS SEEN AS A PROTECTION OF AMERICAN INTERESTS PENDING INTERNATIONAL DECISIONS.

A bill that could silence small business
Article Abstract:
The current congressional legislation on removing tax deductions for lobbying expenses is unfair because it would apply on the local level as well as the federal level. It would create a greater financial burden on small business and create more paperwork.
