RealNetworks to stop collecting user data
Article Abstract:
In response to a New York Times report, RealNetworks stopped collecting user information about music preferences via the company's Realjukebox software. Privacy concerns erupted when it was also reported that the company could discern users' brands of music players and other personal information tagged by RealNetworks' Globally Unique Identifier. The company's chief, Rob Glaser and other executives were quick to admit the potential for cyberspace civil liberties problems and to put an end to the transmission of information about individual users. Analysts believe this is a call to many companies in the industry to address privacy concerns.
