Small Business and Title VII: Combining Subsidiary Units for Jurisdiction
Article Abstract:
Title Seven of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 contains provisions which affect small businesses. Those firms with less than fifteen employees are exempt from Title Seven. If a firm is a semi independent subsidiary of a larger firm, the subsidiary might be considered as having more than the specified number, if considered as part of a single enterprise. Guidelines for these firms are provided from changes filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. To be resolved is the extent of integration. A review of leading cases can furnish guidelines for the semi-independent small firm.

Labor Market Segmentation in Small Business?
Article Abstract:
The focus of a labor market study for small businesses is West Germany. Different supply and demand features for labor are illustrated. A comparison of employment fluctuations between small and large firms is provided. The theroretical basis of the study is founded upon the stabilization hypothesis and the destabilization hypothesis of the labor market in market economics. There are indications of four labor market segmentations in West Germany. The segmentation demonstrates the dependency of the small business' employment relations on the economic development of larger businesses.
