Jury finds NBC negligent in 'Dateline' report
Article Abstract:
NBC, a unit of General Electric, was found guilty of negligence and misrepresentation by a Maine jury for a 1995 'Dateline NBC' report on the US trucking industry. Damages of $525,000 were awarded to the plaintiffs, Classic Carriers, a trucking firm headquartered in Waterville, ME. The award will be divided between a truck driver for Classic Carriers, who was accused in the NBC report of safety violations, and the company's owners. NBC reaffirmed the accuracy of the report, which was not an issue in the case, and protested the decision.

AT&T wins At Home deal and a foothold as a data carrier
Article Abstract:
At Home Corp. has awarded a $100 million contract to AT&T Corp. to provide 15,000 miles of fiber optic lines. The move is seen as strategically sound for both firms. The deal should prove to be a cost saver over At Home's arrangement with Sprint. At Home made its selection because of AT&T's being able to provide wave-division multiplexing equipment which will allow transmission of both data and voice.
