Some smoking liability suits backed
Article Abstract:
The Supreme Court ruled that consumers may sue cigarette companies for health problems in some circumstances. The 7-2 ruling allows three types of suits: breach of warranty, fraudulent misrepresentation and concealment claims, and conspiracy to conceal information.

Race-based juror exclusion barred

The Supreme Court ruled that criminal defendants cannot make peremptory jury challenges based solely on the basis of race. The 7-2 decision stated that the unique governmental function of criminal jury selection bars participants from race discrimination.
