Staffing a multiskilled workforce with varying levels of productivity: an analysis of cross-training policies
Article Abstract:
An integer linear programming framework was developed in an effort to provide service-oriented firms an efficient means of optimizing their labor force potential, while putting a cap on costs. The model dwells on the concept of optimizing labor requirements across a planning horizon in order to generate considerable work force cost reductions. Results revealed that identifying cross-training structures that allow employee chaining is a robust alternative in increasing productivity.
