Staying ahead of global competition: the Tata Steel strategy
Article Abstract:
The globalization of the Indian economy presents many challenges for a steel company such as Tata Steel. Fortunately, the Indian firm is highly prepared to deal with the changes that accompany economic globalization. For one, it has demonstrated a remarkable will to succeed in this international arena. This enthusiasm for success is most clearly seen in the fact that it has been introducing major modernization plans since the 1980s to upgrade and adopt new technology to sustain its leadership in the competitive market. Aside from this, Tata Steel has embraced new business strategies such as cost control, improved customer orientation and focus on steel-making areas. It also boasts of a workforce that is in harmony with management, as seen in the absence of strikes or labor disputes since the 1940s.
