Stratton Oakmont's former principals are barred by SEC

The Securities and Exchange Commision barred former Stratton Oakmont Inc. principals from the securities industry. The five former principals and former broker from defunct Stratton Oakmont were barred as part of a settlement with the SEC. The SEC alleged unauthorized trades and falsified licensing exams. The allegations provided the basis for a record $13.1 million arbitration ruling against Stratton Oakmont employees and officials. Stratton Oakmont sought bankruptcy protection in 1997 due to the civil and criminal action against its principals and brokers.

Former Stratton officers face charges of fraud
Article Abstract:
Two former officers of Stratton Oakmont Inc. have been charged with money laundering and securities fraud by federal prosecutors. The two former officers, Jordan Belfort and Daniel Porush, were charged with using a network of foreign bank accounts and companies to buy millions of unregistered stock shares that are usually given to foreigners. Both Mr. Porush and Mr. Belfort were arrested. Mr. Belfort is the former chiarman of Stratton. Mr. Porush is the former president.

Merill's settlement in discrimination case is approved by judge
Article Abstract:
A federal judge gave a final approval to Merrill Lynch & Co.'s settlement agreement in a class-action sex-discrimination lawsuit. US District Judge Ruben Castillo gave his approval after he heard no objections to Merrill's May 1998 settlement. The company made the settlement with the plaintiffs' lawyers. The settlement allows up to 2,800 present and former female workers to submit discrimination complaints through a new mediation system.
