Taking the grand tour of world art on CD-ROM
Article Abstract:
Numerous major art galleries, including the Uffizi in Italy, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NY and the National Museum in London, have published CD-ROMs that showcase their art collections. The new Uffizi Gallery CD-ROM includes numerous holdings that are not available to the general public due to a 1993 car bomb. The virtual art gallery's interface allows users to navigate around the museum's rooms. Clicking on a painting brings up detailed history and commentary about the work. Microsoft's Art Gallery CD-ROM was the first virtual art gallery application. It offers various guided tours of collections. The National Gallery in London's Great Artists application includes vast scholarly information about art works in its collection. Serious art scholars will be interested in Luna Imaging Inc's four-disk collection from the Frank Lloyd Wright Archive of the architect's drawings, which does not attempt to add entertainment value, but does provide a vast wealth of scholarly information.

From her lips to a thousand ears: a voice-mail tale
Article Abstract:
An unknown New York woman left a sexually explicit message on the voice mail at her lawyer's office and it has since been circulated to hundreds of eavesdropping listeners. The message refers to a particularly graphic, wild account of a date she had the previous night. The message was forwarded to a friend, who then forwarded it to another friend, creating a type of chain mail/rumor bin in the digital age. Only a few days later, the phone sex/voice mail message had circulated to hundreds of eager listeners. To send the message to other voice mail systems, which are usually incompatible, one has to call a friend's mailbox and 'conference in' to a secondary line to play the message. Most men believe the tale to be true, while some women are calling it voice-mail pornography. Those who have heard the message claim its wonderful, saying it matters not if it's a real account of an evening out.
