'Alpha' is a label that is liberally applied as synonym for macho aggression, however its actual meaning is much more nuanced. For generations alpha characteristics have pretty much been prerequisites for success in American business and most other endeavors. Research, however, indicates that alpha males and females come in four high-achieving flavors, each with dangerous weaknesses that overpower its strengths.
