Technologies keep parents tied to school
Article Abstract:
New technologies are providing better communication between parents and schools. Schools are using technologies such as voice mail, online services and interactive videos to communicate with parents. The French Minitel monitor, for example, enables parents to receive school announcements and will later provide information on assignments and grades. Some students are worried about parents invading their privacy, and some parents are worried about information provided that is not related to education. Some schools use voice mail and other automated voice systems to automatically inform parents of absences. Other voice mail uses include providing assignments and enabling parents to send messages to teachers. Some schools provide interactive assignments through cable television to supplement students' classwork.
