NCR Offers I-Version Tower
Article Abstract:
NCR Corp.'s I-Tower multiuser small business computer system is based on Motorola's 16-bit 10MHz 68000 processor. It supports a wide variety of peripherals, including 5.25 and eight inch Winchester disks, streaming tape, a wide range of printers, and several CRTs. It runs under th Ryan-McFarland- Commercial Operating System (RM-COS). A configuration with 512K bytes of memory, a 46M byte Winchester disk, a 1M byte flexible disk, a 20M byte streaming tape, a 125 lin-min printer, CRT, eight RS232C I-O ports, RM-COS, and the RM- COBOL compiler, sells for $28,880. NCR Delivers 1,000th Tower 1632 Unit
Article Abstract:
NCR Corp. has delivered the 1,000th Tower 1632 manufactured to Trans Tech Services (TTS) of Pleasanton, California. TTS is using the Tower computer as a cpu in its vehicle routing system called DISPATCH-Control. The system is used by dispatchers and terminal operators who have had no prior computer experience. The key feature of the system is the touch VDT. When a dispatcher touches a given customer location, the computer displays a series of arrows along a street map that shows the most efficient route.
