The central objective
Article Abstract:
Formerly, the central banks tried to achieve low inflation, high employment, predefined levels of interest and growth rates, and manage exchange rates. The central banks now focus only on inflation and exchange rates. Interest rates on government bonds are fixed by markets. Implications of these policies for Australian economy are discussed.

Negative currency thoughts
Article Abstract:
There are strong reasons to be negative about every exchange rate, because the Australian dollar, like the US, has a current account deficit that is huge. However, their optimism lies in the fact that exchange rates cannot all fall, and foreign exchange markets are again viewing the Australian dollar as a commodity-related currency.
