Entrants and prospective players believe that the information superhighway is a potentially rich source of value and growth because it creates an entire industry and opportunities for generating revenues. Among the opportunities it offers are video-on-demand for the mass market, advertising revenues, interactive communication, virtual office and virtual reality and complete integration of voice/data/video. Some of those which have recognized the enormous potentials of the information superhighway and have hooked onto it are local exchange carriers, long distance telephone companies, cable TV operators, local jurisdictions, electric/gas utilities and competitive access providers.
