Exports of live-meat to the Middle East since May 2003 are subject to formal risk analysis to predict whether animals are at risk of dying at unacceptable levels from heat stress in Australia. The ship owners will have to update their ships on a regular basis to be able to comply, which will increase the operating cost of vessels.
