The making of E.B. White

E.B. White's book, 'One Man's Meat,' was first published in 1942 and is a compilation of essays he wrote for Harper's Magazine. The essays show the maturation of White as a writer and a person before he wrote the classic children's novels for which he is famous. Many essays focus on freedom.

Angus Wilson: cruel-kind enemy of false sentiment and self-delusion
Article Abstract:
Wilson was considered an iconoclast during the 1950s for his portrayals of difficult characters and class issues in the UK. Although he has currently fallen out of literary fashion, some of his novels such as 'Anglo-Saxon Attitudes' and 'No Laughing Matter' deserve a new audience.

The book that ruined Melville
Article Abstract:
Herman Melville's 'Pierre: Or the Ambiguities' is the book that wrecked the author popular reputation during the remainder of his lifetime. Ironically, the book was written almost immediately after 'Moby Dick.' A new, edited version, of the book is being released by HarperCollins.
