The money men
Article Abstract:
Sequoia Capital partners Michael Moritz and Don Valentine discuss key issues and trends in high technology venture capital investment. Sequoia has an excellent track record, having financed such industry leaders as Atari, 3Com, Apple and Oracle. Currently, it is investing in such Internet-based ventures as Yahoo!, C-Cube Systems and Terayon. Valentine opines that the cable and Bell telephone companies underestimated the length of time that would be required to implement fiber-optic-based interactive television services. Moritz adds that the nature of the market is likely to change significantly as users being to rely increasingly on the computer as an entertainment platform. Valentine questions the efficacy of AT and T's investment in the Internet, and ponders the question of why the government feels the need to construct an information superhighway that already exists.
