The myth of restructuring, 'competent' managers and the transition to a market economy: a Romanian tale
Article Abstract:
The extent to which the values of the transition to a market economy have been embraced by Romanian companies and the change in managerial identity according to these new values are analyzed. The analysis focuses on the significance of structural forces for change as well as on the actors' interpretations of the process of change. Findings indicate that companies conform to the values of the transition, but only to those which they deem are based on economic rationality.
