The tactics employed by startups to register rapid growth are discussed. Startups tend to be innovative, recognize opportunities, plan well and export substantial quantities of their produce. An analysis of startups with relevant statistics is presented and the strategies employed by these start ups that could benefit other industries are highlighted.

The effects of overall economic slowdown on the growth in private companies are discussed. It is noted that the growth in total revenue of the top 500 private companies was just 2.6% when compared to the 6.7% growth for all Australian businesses for the 2003-2004 year.
