The low-cost domestic airline to be launched by Qantas would compete with the low-cost competitor, Virgin Blue. The Chief Executive of British Airways feels that Australian market has room for only two domestic carriers and that no full-service network carrier has succeeded in managing the low-cost carrier but Qantas are confident about the plan are sure that they can do it successfully.

Spreading its wings

Qantas is in the process of acquiring other low-cost carriers or starting new low cost carriers in Asia and Europe after its decision regarding setting up of a low cost carrier in Singapore. Qantas plans to widen its horizons by making its presence felt in countries like China, Japan, India and Thailand where talks are going on regarding open sky policies.

The chief executive of Qantas, Geoff Dixon is making efforts to set up more airlines overseas, using a low cost model. Regulators have allowed the Air France and the Dutch airline KLM to join forces and create the world's biggest airline.
