Analysis of the effect of external change on the management of business schools within the higher education sector
Article Abstract:
Business schools in the UK have adopted similar structural approaches in response to external changes such as funding cuts. These approaches are primarily based on hierarchy, with standardized decision-making procedures, communications and committee proceedings. Increased standardization, however, has been associated with a greater need for administrative support and disciplinary action.

School governors should assume representational responsibilities and act as a communication link between agencies. Chief education officers should take on supervisorial activities and perform ceremonial and oversight functions.
