Transfer of Management Know-How to Developing Countries: An Empirical Investigation
Article Abstract:
Management expertise transfer to less developed countries (LDC) through graduate university programs in advanced nations is analyzed. Research was conducted using about seventy managers from Turkey, who acquired an M.B.A. in the United States. Three adaption issues are highlighted: local applicability of certain skills, firm and individual factors linked to local applications of management expertise and primary considerations in transfer impediments common to indigenous organizations. Frequently, technology is transferred to LDCs through licensing or multinationals' foreign direct investment. Foreign direct investment has been hampered by inappropriate transfers and problems related to foreign dominance. Sample participants were located through the Turkish Educational Foundation. Factor loadings for expertise applications are explained. Data collection and measurement techniques are detailed. Tables of management expertise applicability patterns are included.
